TitleF | info Jewelry - A machine that assists the visually disabled with food purchasing-
Concept: | In modern life, there are many styles of and tastes to "eating." Choosing what to eat based on one's mood and even being unable to make up one's mind is a rich and happy time in our lives. There are, however, people in the same living environment who are unable to experience such happy moments. They are those who have lost their sight, one the five senses essential to the experience of eating. When shopping at convenient stores and grocery stores, it is almost impossible to judge the food based on smell and touch for all food products are packed and sealed in uniform containers. Therefore, I propose creating an audio support system for food purchasing. When the user picks up a food item, food date will be read through the ring worn on the finger and conveyed through the earphone worn on the ear. I believe this can be a product that delivers the wealth of "eating" such as the joy of eating food which suits one's mood. |

Judge's Comments: | I can appreciate the concept presented here of a device providing audio information and support to visually impaired persons while they shop for food, and such a device could be built using current technology. But actually using this in a convenience store or supermarket would require establishment of systems allowing the device to be used, for example with product packaging including data about the products and product displays set up in stores. I believe the earphones would also fall out easily. I'd like to see more verification of this idea with visually impaired persons actually utilizing the concept.
