Title: Lantern

Comcept: A lantern for a city that has become too bright.
When nighttime comes, people carry their own lanterns and walk along the streets like fireflies. This kind of scene used to be something ordinary in the old days. Why do streetlights, billboards and vending machines have to light up the town so much?
I came up with an idea to bottle the light of a lantern in a plastic bottle, something that we use in our daily lives. People walk the night town with the wavering light of the lanterns in their hands. Wherever there is light, it indicates that something is happening there. Places where people gather eventually brightens up and you will notice the depth of communication people have by the brightness of the light you see around. A light flickering in the dark brings about more light and invigorates the community. I thereby propose this lantern which coexists with modern life, for a city that has become too bright.

Coment: The idea to create a portable lantern using ubiquitous plastic bottles was very keen. As the creator mentioned in the concept, the original form of light is claiming back its place in over lit cities. The creator uniquely suggests a Japanese lantern that is suitable to the modern world. Water swaying in the bottle adds expression to the light. In reality, it is easier to imagine the piece being used at event sights and resort spots rather than in overly lit cities.
