Honorable Mention

Title: HomeUnit

Comcept: Home unit was developed under the premise of creating an alternative and positive design orientated solution to some of the problems faced by the homeless, whilst also creating a high profile and attractive opportunity for investors to promote their businesses and to assist the homeless at the same time. After extensive research / interviews and workshops with homeless people in Copenhagen, we concluded that whilst it may not be possible to find an overnight solution to the world's homeless problem, we might in someway be able to assist in providing an increased sense of security within homeless people's daily lives and at the same time raise their profile with investors and society at large. When considering the basic criteria which this project would need to fulfil, our research identified the following key words as best representing the factors which were considered important to people living on the streets, security, mobility, flexibility, simplicity, independence, and dignity.

Coment: This portable housing unit was created to help the homeless gain independence. Although designed to solve the problem of the homeless, it could also be applied to natural disaster situations such as earthquakes. The portable Home Unit would provide great assistance both physically and mentally in comparison to the stressful situation we have seen when people must stay in school gymnasiums or outside. Considering the usage of the Home Unit in a variety of situations would help further develop the utility of the work.
