Exhibition:
WISDOM of NATURE :
Sustainable building Surprising solutions with resources from nature
September 15 − October 2, 2005

New technologies are measured from the point of view about how intelligently they fulfil requirements and to which extent they consume resources. This means that technological progress may not cause problems and must be able to be integrated in natural cycles. Environmental targets like that of the Kyoto Protocol which refer to the output of carbon dioxide can only be achieved by consequently implementing research results. In this context high-tech solutions based on natural principles (Wisdom of Nature) play a decisive role.

Due to recent Austrian research results the construction sector has succeeded in realising modern buildings with only the tenth part of the usual resource consumption. The project S-House shows how this concept can be realised with untreated natural raw materials like wood and other renewable resources, as well as the application of biomimetics research results and the consequent separation of biological and technical cycles. Students of Architecture have investigated in traditional architecture and translated this enormous potential of wisdom into contemporary solutions for sustainable building.

Surprising solutions with resources from nature

The exhibition shows visionary works that are illustrating the amazing potential of buildings and building materials made of renewable resources. Based on an integration of traditional technologies with contemporary design sustainable solutions emphasize health and well being of the environment as well as of the occupants of the building. The S-House project a European sustainable best practice solution is shown together with the best Student works from leading Universities all over Japan.
