Title: | leaf chips | |
Concept: | One day I was taking a walk with a bag of potato chips in my hand. I sat on the bench at the park and ate the potato chips while watching some children play. When I accidently dropped a piece on the ground, I found a fallen leaf lying on the ground next to the piece I had dropped. Since then, every time I see potato chips, I'm reminded of fallen leaves. When we eat something, we should enjoy the taste of the season, even when eating a simple snack like potato chips. Enjoy “Leaf Chips” surrounded by the autumn scenery as though relishing the taste of Japanese confectionery. |

Judge's Comments: | This is a very interesting and poetic work that expresses the concept of the potato chip as everything from a junk food consumed mindlessly while one is watching television to a treat eating as lovingly as a traditional Japanese sweet. A foreign-born snack, potato chips have come to be more and more familiar in Japan. The seasonal link and bodily sensations turn these into an aspect of regular daily life. This is an interesting idea in which an ordinary item is reborn as something different. | |
