Nagoya City Art Museum 35th Anniversary
Miran Fukuda Exhibition – What is Art?

Contemporary artist Miran Fukuda’s first solo exhibition in the Chubu region. After completing the graduate school of Tokyo University of the Arts, she became the youngest in history to receive the Yasui Prize, which is regarded as the gateway to success in figurative painting, and has continued to be active both in Japan and overseas. Using contemporary social issues and famous paintings from all over the world as themes, she expresses them with a sharp perspective that overturns preconceived notions, sometimes with humor. This exhibition introduces works from the 1980s to recent years, as well as new works inspired by works in the collection of the Nagoya City Art Museum. Pursuing the possibilities of painting with deep insight, what is art? Many works that ask this question stimulate our thoughts and give us the wisdom and energy to survive in the chaotic modern world.
