Honorable Mention

Title of work Turning Point Campaign
Concept of the work Unexploded landmines are one social problem that must be solved. However, due to the fact that many people are not familiar with the issue of landmines, this problem shows no signs of a solution. It is first necessary to increase consciousness regarding landmines. In order to achieve this goal, I would like to propose the Turning Point Campaign. The campaign is a role-playing experience in which people unfamiliar with landmines are made to step on model landmines. This experience conveys the sense of danger associated with real landmines. Specifically, Colorless and transparent model landmines are placed in several locations within shopping malls. By installing the posters near the model landmines, an even stronger impression is created by using the visual experiences. Alongside, donation boxes are installed on the register counters of cafes and boutiques within the shopping mall. Then, the cost of removal is raised in each installation place.
This proposal is communication design which uses model landmines to convey danger through all five senses of participants.
Judge's Comment High evaluation should be given to the designer's desire to engage the theme of removing landmines. In my understanding, the goal of this campaign is to provide a very real sense of the danger posed by landmines to people living in safe areas. Unfortunately, the work submitted to the Final Screening lacked sufficient power of persuasion. The landmine model was made of clear silicon and did not provide a sense of reality when stepped on or when viewed from a distance. I hope that the designer will continue to work on this theme in the future.
