Honorable Mention [Astrid Klein's prize]

TitleF Snow Flake

Concept: You drop it, it floats. You blow it, it melts. You drink it, it tastes like sweets...
What is this? It is a sugar which gives you magics...
The hollow structure allows the sugar sphere to float when you drop it to the hot drink. The process of blowing and melting helps you to take hot drink without stirring to melt the sugar, as well as to enjoy the fun experience of blowing the sugar sphere and to cool the coffee at the same time. The convection current which is formed by the cycle of cold water sinking and hot water rising, creates the flow of liquid that brings the melted sugar evenly into the entire solution. The experience of blowing hot beverage to cool down the surface in order to achieve the right temperature to drink is no longer a boring process, but an enjoyable and meaningful act.

Judge's Comments: Singapore, where this artist lives, has no snowfall, and this work allows one to sense that wish for snow. This is a poetic piece that gets the imagination working. Unfortunately, using coffee to dissolve the sugar in the process of sizing the sugar balls did not actually recreate the effect adequately, this is actually possible to work out. I believe this would make the nice little pleasure of drinking coffee more enjoyable.
