TitleF ONSUI (hot water)

Concept: Large-scale earthquakes in the past have brought to light various issues concerning food in disaster areas. Providing food which considers the condition of the disaster area will not only help victims feel at ease, but will also provide them with the strength to restore and revive the area with their own hands.
Now is the time to reconsider how to provide food in disaster areas and to prepare for impending disasters. To be comfortable even in an emergency situation, we should prepare survival and disaster prevention items that fit easily into daily life.
While utilities are cut off, securing gONSUI (hot water)h is of key importance in preparing food. Also, as fire is a danger in disaster-stricken areas, it is necessary to have a means of obtaining gONSUIh without using flame. For effortless preparation for emergency situations, I propose an emergency tool that can also fit into everyday life. By fitting heat generation cartridges that use heat from the hydration of water and quicklime (calcium oxide), water can be boiled. This can also be used as a drink container for everyday use.

Judge's Comments: This work faithfully expresses the creator's feeling via the theme of provisions for disaster victims. The artist exhibits a strong social consciousness, carefully considering functionally in the event of a disaster as well as graphic expression, to come up with a highly finished work. Reflecting the advice of judges in the first screening, the form and design detail have been greatly improved. This is an item that can also be used in day-to-day life, and one can sense the relief-inducing warmth and comfort it would provide even under the severe conditions of a natural disaster. While I think the design exhibits the power to make conditions seem better, the artist is also encouraged to work on improving in the future.
